A meticulous, client-first process refined over 40 years of London property work. From the first site visit to the final schedule of works, every step is designed around your project and your peace of mind.
We begin every project the right way — by coming to you. We meet on-site with the client to walk the property, listen carefully, and fully understand the scope and character of the work ahead. No detail is too small, no ambition too large.
During the site meeting we create a thorough record of all requirements discussed — using notes, photographs and annotations — so that no client request is missed or forgotten when moving to specification.
We produce a detailed Specification and Tender that sets out the full scope of works — complete with annotations and photographs. This ensures that both the client and contractor share a precise, agreed understanding of the project before work begins.
Where the project requires it, we can introduce you to our trusted network of architects, structural engineers and interior designers — each carefully matched to the character and complexity of your specific project.
Once instructed, we act as your main contractor and single point of contact, liaising with Building Control, Historic England (where listed building consent applies), architects, structural engineers and interior designers on your behalf. We provide a clear project timeline and schedule of works, keeping you fully informed at every stage.
“Excellent and efficient service, top quality finish and exceptional aftercare. Highly professional and great communication throughout. I would highly recommend.”
“John and team did a great job on a large project including building an extension, internal layout changes, and redecoration. All to a very high standard.”
“John Dean has carried out all the repair, redecoration and emergency trouble shooting on my home for nearly 20 years. Always a top quality job with courteous and conscientious workmen, accurate initial pricing and great aftercare.”
“Great company to work with. We have used them for several jobs and every time been very happy. I like the fact they take the time to explain your options and help make the best informed choice for the Job. They have the same long term team of specialist doing each part of job so get best possible service. They are also very considerate when in your home and pet friendly”
“Deans just converted my loft adding a large double bedroom and a en-suite bathroom. The project was finished on schedule and on budget. My family and I have been very impressed with the attention to detail and the finish. Would recommend without hesitation.”
“Did a great job renovating a basement kitchen. Very professional and efficient. A wealth of knowledge in all trades. Trustworthy. Provided detailed quote and regular updates on progress as I was not on site for the duration. Pleasure to deal with and they lived up to their excellent reputation.”
“We engaged Deans Property Preservation for our new extension and general overhaul of our house. Their team and contractors are trustworthy and work to a continual high standard. John and Carsten Dean as a father and son team are a family business with great values.”
“We've used Deans for a number of jobs and have always been pleased with the service and quality. Most recently they designed and fitted a new glass roof and bifold doors for our conservatory, and it looks great. They are very focused on security and keeping things clean, which really reduces the stress of building work. Both John and Carsten are professional and friendly. Not the very cheapest but highly recommended.”
We work throughout North London and the surrounding boroughs. Most of our projects are in Islington, Hampstead, Highbury and Barnet, though we regularly take on work right across the capital. Not sure if your street is on our patch? Get in touch — we're always glad to say yes where we can.
Yes. We regularly restore and renovate Grade II and Grade II* listed homes, as well as properties in conservation areas. We manage the extra care these projects demand — sourcing appropriate materials and liaising with your local conservation officer and Historic England where listed building consent is required.
Safety is managed on every project, in line with UK construction regulations (CDM 2015). We keep sites tidy and secure, use only qualified, insured tradespeople, and hold the relevant registrations — including Gas Safe for gas work.
Before any work begins we produce a detailed Specification and Tender setting out the full scope, with annotations and photographs, so you and the contractor share one clear, agreed price. That means no vague estimates and far fewer surprises once we're on site.
Yes. As your main contractor we act as your single point of contact and liaise with Building Control, and where needed architects, structural engineers and Historic England, on your behalf — so you're not left chasing approvals yourself.
You'll have one point of contact throughout. We act as main contractor, coordinating every trade and supplier and keeping you updated at each stage, so there's always one person who knows exactly where your project stands.
For smaller projects like a kitchen or single bathroom it's often possible, though disruptive; for larger refurbishments or basement digs it's usually easier to move out for part of the works. We'll advise honestly at the specification stage.
Every project is different, so we set out a realistic timeline and schedule of works in your specification before we start — and keep you informed if anything changes.
We're happy to share our insurance details on request.
Just get in touch with a rough idea of where the property is, what you'd like done, and your timeline. We begin every project with an on-site consultation — we come to you, walk the property, and take the time to understand the work before anything else.
